Throughout 2017, we have seen a strong and sustained increase in the work we do for the industry we love. This is a testament to the region's dedicated hospitality partners working together with Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island within a united tourism industry. As our great nation of Canada celebrated 150 years, the County of Essex turned a young 225 years and the City of Windsor put 125 candles on its own birthday cake; our region was full of events and celebrations throughout the year. We had much to celebrate about in 2017 including: • Summer social media campaign - 60 Reasons I 60 days allowing visitors to choose their own itineraries from a list of experiences provided which saw over 375,000 impressions • Launched our new Windsor Essex Coffee Trail with 10 artisanal partners helping to perk things up for coffee enthusiasts • Held our 2nd annual Best of Windsor Essex awards showcasing where locals like to patronize so will visitors • Hosted our 2nd AGM at the Capitol Theatre with special guests Minister of Tourism Culture and Sport the Honourable Eleanor McMahon and Beth Potter, President and CEO of the Tourism Association of Ontario • We conducted several workshops throughout the year focusing on cycling, market readiness and certification, birding, video production and social media • For our overnight visitors especially, they are sleeping in new digs across the region with over $76 million in infrastructure upgrades to our hotel sector positioning us well to offer outstanding hotel choices TWEPI was recognized on provincial and national stages: • Winner, National Parks Service's "Partnership" Award for the "Plan Your Road Trip" passport, a collaboration with MotorCities National Heritage Area and the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau During the Ontario Tourism Summit at the 2017 Tourism Industry Awards of Excellence (TIAO) industry dinner we were named finalists for: • Ontario Culinary Tourism Experience Award for the Barrels, Bottles & Brews Trail • Tourism Marketing Partnership Award The horizon for Windsor Essex Pelee Island looks promising with stakeholder engagement at an all time high. Tourism is an economic generator and job creator. Tourism matters and we thank our partners for the very important role they collectively play in our industry's success.
