Windsor Essex Pelee Island — Windsor Discovery Guide 2017
Change Language:

Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island welcomes the 99th Mastercard Memorial Cup to our great region, the southernmost in Canada – a 100 mile peninsula, surrounded by water.

Windsor’s tapestry of rich history and diverse cultures forms a heritage which showcases a citizenry accustomed to persevere, through great resolve, creativity, ambition and pride. Visitors can learn more about our heritage and our storied Prohibition past by participating in the Drinks of Walkerville Walking Tour, where one can enjoy a hands-on tour of the Hiram Walker & Sons distillery and learn the history and brewing process of Walkerville Brewery. Finish off the tour discovering street art at The Willistead Restaurant. As there is limited availability, book immediately!

As the birthplace of whisky in Canada, the tradition continues today with a new generation of craft brewers and distillers via the Barrels, Bottles & Brews Trail. Tour our #barreltrail to raise a glass and discover your new favourite! We also happen to be positioned on the same latitude as the Tuscany, Italy and Northern California’s Napa Valley wine regions and offer some of the world’s finest wines along our southern shore - the Essex Pelee Island Coast (EPIC).

Along the northern shore, Windsor’s riverfront parks, located on the banks of the historic Detroit River and stretching over 8 kilometers, offer a panorama of enticing vista points: the downtown skylines of both the cities of Windsor and our American neighbours across the water, Detroit; the Ambassador Bridge, North America’s busiest border-crossing; and the Windsor Sculpture Park, an outdoor museum without walls.

There is a lot of excitement within the region as we celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. Parks Canada is proud to offer free admission (through their Discovery Pass) to their properties this year. We have two in the region to choose from - Point Pelee National Park and Fort Malden National Historic Site. For more information on 150th celebrations within the Windsor Essex region, go to

We are home to Caesars Windsor, the largest casino and entertainment complex in Canada.

Uncover our storied past dealing with the quest for freedom and automotive ingenuity, which can be found at Windsor’s Chimczuk Museum.

We welcome you to share the #plentyofreasons you discover why you’ll love Windsor Essex - a must see destination for you and your family!

Yours sincerely,

Gordon Orr, Chief Executive Officer
